Chinese New Year 2020 Shopping Tips

3rd January 2020

The Chinese New Year is an auspicious occasion that many of us celebrate and prepare for. That means new clothes, new shoes, new home decor and even things like dining ware! The whole affair sounds like it’s going to be an investment, so why not be a smart shopper and shop for all your Chinese New Year needs overseas?

There are plenty of choices to choose from, with retailers and brands from countries like the US, UK and Australia always offering deals and sales. But did you know that you can also get more bang for your buck (as well as more CNY-themed items) when you shop from Asian platforms from China and Hong Kong?

This is the perfect opportunity to shop for fashion and accessories, home and dining ware, as well as tech products. Is this your first time shopping overseas for Chinese New Year? We have some tips up our sleeves to share with you to prepare for your shopping spree!

Get the Best Deals

Make sure to follow Buyandship Malaysia on Instagram and Facebook. We will keep you up to date with all deals and discounts. Places like Taobao or Tmall will have the biggest variety of brands and selection for Chinese New Year. It’s a little tricky to navigate if you’re not a native Mandarin speaker, but worry not! We have a quick tutorial on how you can shop on Taobao or Tmall using Buyandship!

Download Coupon Codes

Oftentimes, sellers or online stores offer discount coupons. On Taobao or Tmall, you can visit the respective stores or brands to check out what coupons they have available. Make sure to download them beforehand and store them in your account. Even if you end up not using some of them, at the very least you’ll have extra savings when you shop if you do!

Prepare Multiple Payment Options

Most sellers on Taobao and Tmall do accept international credit/debit cards. If you’re using your credit/debit cards to shop, make sure to call your issuing bank ahead of time to inform them of international shopping charges.

And if you’re in Malaysia, you also have the option to pay using e-wallets like Boost and Touch ‘n Go if your respective Malaysian banks (especially for debit cards) are under maintenance in the middle of the night.

Use Buyandship’s International Forwarding Service

Start shopping now so that you can receive your Chinese New Year prep haul before it’s too late! We know that certain websites do offer international shipping for a minimal fee, but a lot of the times, you can’t track your parcel once it leaves China. Here’s a pro tip: Taobao and Tmall often offer free shipping within China (more so for it’s upcoming New Year Festival), so you only need to consider the Buyandship shipping costs! Keep in mind, that some other websites charge handling and agent fees. But with Buyandship you never have to be afraid of any hidden fees!
